Food, Inc.

We went to the AFI Dallas volunteer orientation on Saturday to sign up for our shifts. We actually liked working so much last year that we're hoping to sign up for more time this year, which means that we'll probably be seeing fewer films. One that I would obviously never miss is Robert Kenner's Food, Inc. As you know, I'm a total sucker for documentaries in general, but I am specifically interested in anything about food and food politics. I will admit to having watched (and enjoyed) some of the lowest quality garbage "documentaries" on television because they focused on my favorite topic. Well, if the reviews are valid, this film is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

A few quotes:
"Food, Inc. is the most important film about our food system in a generation."
Michael Pollan

"Food, Inc. does what good reporting does--it connects the dots."
Variety

"The film I've always been waiting for."
Alice Waters

If you live in or near Dallas, I highly recommend that you get to the festival. We saw some great films last year that are still not available anywhere else. The documentary shorts are often amazing and difficult to find elsewhere. It's just a really great festival--and you can save a ton of money if you buy your tickets ahead of time at the box office.
