Gross Update

may day cupcake
you get a may day cupcake instead of larva filled sauerkraut...

I'm choosing to spare you all today by not posting a photo of our sauerkraut that somehow became infested with an unidentified insect family. The entire batch was lost to us, but they seemed to be enjoying it. It's a little disappointing because it really seemed to be getting there tastewise. It was an interesting experiment, but I don't think we'll be trying it again until we have a garage, basement or at least a larger apartment. I definitely wouldn't discourage others from trying it, though!

I love sauerkraut and we have made it in the past with good results. We've always made it, a bucket full at a time, and them took it to my husband's parents for storage as they had a cold room in their basement. Whenever we wanted a feed, we would have to go there to get enough for a meal to bring home. We had an unheated rock wall basement at the time but with the furnace there it was still too warm for sauerkraut.I would not recommend trying to make it unless you had a cold room to store it in while it works.

Cute cupcake. The other day when I was cleaning a corn cob there was a big green caterpillar wedged in their eating away. I'd definitely prefer the catepillar over maggots. Sorry about your debacle.

I hate fly larvae. Bah!

Your pictures are so beautiful and I have enjoyed looking over your blog. I'm glad you stop by mine, too. :-)

I think you're in Texas? And your dogs have the same coloring as mine. And if you put glasses on Russell he could probably pass as Mason. Most people see a young white guy with a full beard.

We could be living a parallel life.
