Guerrilla Gardening, Sort Of

rogue tomato

We've been planting rogue tomatoes around the parking lot of our apartment building. This is one of the first six that we planted, a mistakenly bought "Homegrown 21". We thought we'd picked up a flat of Caspian Pinks. Not to worry, we went back to the market and brought home 24 brothers and sisters for these six. There are now Homegrown 21s, Caspian Pinks, Yellow Pears, Brandywines and Sweet 100s. We planted them at the beginning of the week, and we've already had four casualties and four near deaths. We'll see how it goes, I guess. The project cost $12 and two hours of man time, so I figure if we get even two tomatoes from each plant, it will have been worthwhile.

There is also a plot of grass in the parking lot about 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep that is just begging to be dug up and turned into a delicious mini tomato farm...
