Wah!

salt and pepper tofu

We are nearing the end of day two of NoHotWatergate. Gross. I can't bear to take another cold shower today. And it took over an hour to do all of the dishes with ice water pouring from the tap. I wouldn't mind so much being without hot water if we were camping--or traveling cross country--or on a remote island. But, no. We're still in the same crappy one bedroom apartment... [/whinge]

Anyway, dinner was simple salt and pepper tofu with some sauteed mushrooms on long grain rice. The tofu looks like tofu. It was very easy and tasty, as usual. The mushrooms look kind of gross, but they were actually pretty yum. I marinated them in olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper and oregano. To thicken up the "sauce", I added in some nutritional yeast and a little arrowroot. It was a good way to use up a few things that were going off in the fridge.

Make This Today!

orange tofu and rice

Mason and I just made (and immediately scarfed) this orange tofu for lunch. It was incredible! I wish that I could take the credit, but it's a VegWeb recipe that I found via the "Vegan Foods-bought or homemade" group on Flickr. We doubled the garlic, tripled the red pepper and used maple syrup mixed with white sugar because we had no brown. Other than those minimal changes, this recipe is perfect and we both felt that it would be well received by non-vegans and tofu-phobes. It was so good that we finished off the entire block.
